How is My Work Signed?
You may wonder why artists and photographers sign their work. A signature on a piece of art authenticates that the work was created by a specific artist. Signatures can be of many styles and can be placed in a number of locations on the work. You can commonly find a signature in the bottom left or right corners of a painting or photograph. The signature can be in black, white or some other color. The important thing is that the signature be visible and contrast with the artwork itself.
Digital photography has brought a whole new challenge to signing my work. Printing companies like Fine Art America ship directly to the end consumer of the artwork. Unfortunately this prevents me from hand signing my work.
I decided to tackle this problem and solved it by creating a True Type font based on my hand-written signature. By using this font I can apply my authentic signature to the digital image prior to uploading it to my printing company. Since this is a True Type font I can apply it in any color and vary the size, placement and boldness of my signature.
The slideshow on this page shows a few examples of my images with the signature applied.
